Meet Olivia!  She is only about four months old and will be a small to medium size dog.  She was rescued from the Richardson Animal Shelter when they called us to report a little puppy had been brought in by it's owner and had an open wound on her right hip.  Due to her condition she was not adoptable and since she was so cute and sweet they wanted to be sure she got the medical treatment she needed so she could be adopted one day soon. Well, it turned out that Olivia had an open puncture wound the size of a silver dollar on her hip.   It could not be sutured and had to heal from the inside out.  Olivia had no problem healing up and is now ready for her own loving and forever home.

Olivia is most likely a rat terrier mix.  This breed is know to be an intelligent, alert and loving dog as well a  very inquisitive and lively. This type of affectionate dog makes an excellent companion for those who will enjoy an energetic dog. They are good with children, especially if they are raised with them from puppyhood. They are, for the most part friendly with strangers. Rat Terriers make good watchdogs. These dogs are quick and very playful and are not yappers. The temperament of these dogs is pure terrier. The lively, feisty, fearless nature can be found in the best of terriers. They are eager to please and respond and pick training up faster than most dogs. The Rat terrier is a very well mannered, well rounded dog. They are easy to train and very eager to learn and to please their owner. They love to go with you and to do what you do. Make sure you are this dog's firm, confident, consistent pack leader to avoid small dog syndrome and  human induced behavior problems along with territorial issues.

Olivia is very smart and has a great sense of humor.  She already knows lots of tricks and is almost house trained. She will go in a crate if she has to but would rather be in your arms or by your side.  She does great with other dog friendly dogs and kids and for the most part thinks she is a cat.  She enjoys cat toys and hanging out in the cat condo with the foster family's cats.

To adopt Oliva log on to www.takemehomepetrescue.com and request an adoption form be emailed to you. We request the following of the potential adopter:

1.    Current pets be up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered (and

on heart worm prevention if a dog)

2.    That the potential owner be home more than not.  It is not fair to

adopt a puppy and keep it crated  left in the back yard all day while you

are at work  as this    creates major behavioral problems as well as an

unhappy owner and puppy.

3.    A home visit by one of our adoption counselors so we request you are local in the Dallas area

4.    A $200.00 pet fee to cover our expenses so we can continue to save

the lives of other dogs like Olivia
